On Monday, the biggest Apple Event of the year, WWDC, began with a bang as the tech giant announced some amazing innovations in software and hardware which set the course for the future of iPhone, iPad and Mac. With so many announcements to go through, here’s our top 5 takeaways.
1. M2 MacBook Air
With an all new sleek and flat design and featuring the brand new M2 chip, the new MacBook Air could be a game changer in the notebook world and was the star of this year's WWDC. We think this MacBook could be the best option for those who want amazing performance and style at a slightly lower price point. With its thin design, it is incredibly portable and it comes in 4 new beautiful colours, including a matte ‘Midnight Black’.
2. iOS 16
Only overshadowed by the announcement of the new MacBook Air, the announcement of iOS 16 will really get some heads turning in the smartphone world. With an emphasis on personalisation, Apple unveiled a completely re-imagined lock screen that can be customised to add widgets, change fonts and apply filters to your wallpaper. We also saw some great sharing features such as shared photo libraries and some new features added to Messages & Mail. While not a huge visual redesign, this release adds some great personalisation features and improves the functionality of some old favourites.
3. macOS Ventura
With a brand new way to manage your windows, ‘Stage Manager’, Facetime handoff and the ability to use your iPhone as your webcam, macOS Ventura is a release that is aimed at collaboration and making simple tasks better. Passkeys have also been introduced in Safari, allowing for a future free of passwords.
2. iPadOS 16
Two big features were announced for iPadOS 16 at WWDC - use your iPad as a full external display and… the Weather App! You are now able to use your iPad as a full external display for your Mac with the ability to drag and drop files and windows across devices. This will be huge for power users who need the extra screen real estate for those big projects. And finally, the one we’ve all been waiting for - the weather app has finally made its way to iPad!
1. watchOS9
The Apple Watch is a huge part of people’s lives and now, with new fitness and sleep tracking features, it can now improve people’s lives even more. You can now track more specific running metrics and more detailed sleep stages as well as tracking medications. And for a little bit of fun, you can enjoy 3 brand new watch faces!
